CI Mid by Channel Islands

CI Mid

The CI MID is a performance mid-length board that incorporates the spirit of the performance board that is the basis of Channel Islands. The mid-length length and wide nose provide stability when taking off, and the moderately tapered tail and 2+1 fin setting increase the board's maneuverability. This board is the perfect mid-length board for those who ride shortboards. The logo is simple and clean, and the coloring is done using resin tinting techniques and a gloss sand finish for a special finish.

Sage Erickson on CI MID

CI MID is recommended for these people!

The CI MID is a mid-length board that can be recommended to all surfers, from beginners to advanced, shortboarders to longboarders. The appeal of the CI Mid is that it allows you to take off from an easy paddle and enjoy long riding on any wave. If you usually ride short waves, you will definitely be able to ride more waves. For intermediate and advanced surfers, the good speed performance is also attractive, and the pleasant turns using the rails to the full will be addictive. The performance is better than that of a typical mid-length board, and you can ride it with a feeling closer to a short board, so advanced surfers will be able to do plenty of lip action. The CI Mid is glassed to be durable, so if you take good care of it, it will last for 5 or 10 years.

CI MID compatible wave sizes and conditions

To make the most of the long rail line, waves with shoulders like point breaks are the best. Even on days with weak waves that would be difficult to ride on with a normal shortboard, the CI MID will accelerate and let you ride long distances. The best waves are around the chest, with a well-formed shape, but I think you can ride with satisfaction in all conditions, from knee-high to overhead.

Recommended fins for CI Mid

We recommend the CI MID 2+1 COMBO fin, created in collaboration between Al Merrick and TRUE AMES for the CI MID. The center fin is 6.5 inches, and the side fins come in two sizes, 3.6 inches and 4 inches. For Japanese boarders with board lengths up to 7'2", we recommend the 3.6 inch fin. The side fin system for the CI MID is the traditional FCS. You can change it to FCS2 or Futures by custom order, but you will no longer be able to use these side fins. Compared to tri-fins like shortboards, 2+1 fins provide more straightness and stability. If you are riding as a single fin, try a fin of about 7.5 inches.

CI MID colors

If you have seen a CI MID, you will surely be enchanted by the coloring of the board. Basically, all CI MIDs are colored using a coloring method called resin tint. Resin tint is done by mixing pigment into resin and then glassing it as is, so it is completely different from airbrushing. It is slightly translucent, has a muted color, and the overlapping parts of the fiberglass look darker, resulting in a natural two-tone finish. Basically, you can make any color, so why not try making one in your favorite color?
