POD MOD by Channel Islands

Pod Mod

Al Merrick's popular POD model, released in 2000 as a pioneer of mini boards, is now available in a new look as the 2015 summer model Pod Mod! It has undergone a major model change from the previous POD model, with the Pod Mod being shorter and wider with an emphasis on ease of takeoff. The bottom concave has also been changed to a major flat to vee bottom, allowing for quick rail-to-rail turns. The Pod Mod offers fast takeoff, good speed, and more aggressive surfing with better rotation than the Average Joe or High 5.

Pod Mod is recommended for these people!

Al Merrick's Pod Mod is a buoyant groveler type (for small waves) board for beginners to intermediate surfers. However, it holds turns without any problems even when surfing overhead. It is highly recommended for those who want to rip, with speed and stability in small waves, slightly junky waves, and slightly large waves. It is also a mini board type, so we would like those who want to try riding a short board to try it. It is also recommended for beginners who want to practice basic surfing, so it is a very all-purpose board. For advanced surfers, we recommend the same volume value as regular performance boards.

Pod Mod's compatible wave sizes and conditions

The Pod Mod is designed to ride a wide range of waves from knee-high to overhead. However, the short, thick overall shape with a voluminous nose area is generally suitable for small, weak waves. The narrow tail allows for tight control even in the pocket of the wave, so it can be ridden without any problems even if the size increases. It will be useful as a main board on any day at a typical beach break in Japan.
