Fever by Channel Islands

Fever

Channel Islands has released their latest high performance model, Fever. Designed by CI factory top shaper Mike Andrew and CI team rider Patrick Gudauskas, Fever incorporates elements of previous models created by Al Merrick, such as the Proton, Rookie, and M-BM, and is designed to allow general users to enjoy tour-level high performance surfing. The shallow single concave and low rocker setting give the board a wide sweet spot, providing stable performance in a variety of wave conditions.

Fever is recommended for these people!

Fever is a high-performance board for intermediate to advanced surfers. However, it is not a difficult board as it is easier to ride, faster, and more adaptable to various waves than the previous model on which it was based. I would like to recommend it as a skill-up board for intermediate surfers who aspire to surf like top professionals. It may open a new door to surfing! I think it will be a good stimulus for those who are getting bored of riding boards for small waves too much.

Fever's wave sizes and conditions

The Fever is an all-round type for waves from hip to double. It is a fast machine with speed in mind, so Patrick Gudauskas says it can handle small to large waves without any problems. I think it would be tough for knee to hip waves, but it will perform well in waves that are hip or higher. It is a performance-oriented shortboard that can be ridden anytime, not just when the waves are good.

Mick Fanning on a roll

Fever chosen by Mick Fanning in the Stab in the Dark project

Have you heard of Stab in the dark, a project run by Stab Magazine? It's a project where pro surfers choose the No. 1 board by painting all 11 surfboards black and not knowing which brand they are. In the 2019 project, Mick Fanning chose Al Merrick's Fever as his No. 1 board out of 11 boards. What's more, it was made of Spine-Tek EPS material. Hearing this makes you want to ride it, doesn't it?

The difference between Fever and Happy

Currently, Al Merrick's high performance models are mainly Happy and Fever. Comparing the two models, Happy is more suitable for carving surfing in more powerful and hollow waves. Fever is characterized by its adaptability to a wide range of waves and its ease of down-the-line speed.
