Twin Fin by Channel Islands

Twin Fin

The CI Twin Fin is a modern model arranged by Britt Merrick based on a board hand-shaped by Al Merrick in the 70's! It all started with a board that Britt's friend found at a garage sale last year, and the template was taken from that board, with a modern rocker. It's a twin fin with a fast take-off and a great sense of speed. Dane loves it and has been riding it a lot recently. For the CI twin fin, we recommend the twin fin set and the small CI stabilizer that are made specifically for this model.

Twin Fin is recommended for these people!

The Twin Fin is a groveler type (for small waves) board for intermediate to advanced surfers. It is a type that you ride with a twin fin + trailer fin, and unlike traditional tri-fins, it has a very loose feeling and allows you to make sharp turns with the tail as the fulcrum. I would like to recommend it to those who want to experience both the feeling of a twin fin and the performance of a modern shortboard at the same time. It is also recommended for those who want to surf gracefully and relaxed like 70's surfing.

TWIN FIN is suitable for all wave sizes and conditions.

The wave size suitable for twin fins is about hip to overhead. In terms of wave conditions, point breaks with a taut shoulder are the best, but since it is a board for small waves with a wide outline, it is easy to gain speed and can be enjoyed in small waves in general. There are many people who ride twin fins as all-round boards.

Recommended fins for Twin Fin

The AMT Future fin template is generally recommended. The combination of twin fins and a small center fin gives a little stability to the speed and looseness of the twin fins, so you can also carbine like a normal shortboard. Even if you don't attach a center fin and use a fin like the AM KEEL, it will give you a very classic feeling and be fun.

What is the difference between twin fins and tri fins?

In a twin fin setup without a center fin, the axis of rotation is not the center of the board, but closer to the rails on both sides. You turn with the image of using the fins and rails together, but since it is less likely to go straight, many people are surprised at how sensitive it is to turn compared to tri-fins. At first, it gives the impression that it moves a lot, but rather than turning sharply around the tail, it feels more like the tail is sliding left and right. Another attraction of twin fins is that they allow you to make quick rail-to-rail transitions and ride as if licking the face of the wave. Twin fins are less stable than tri-fins, so be careful not to put in too much force.
